Position Overview:
Full-time / 1.0 FTE / 80 hours biweekly

Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center


Under the guidance of a licensed radiologic technologist, this role involves assisting in the execution of imaging examinations, transporting patients, and performing assigned administrative tasks.

Responsibilities include escorting or transporting patients within the healthcare facility. Flexibility in shifts, including weekends and holidays, may be required to ensure optimal patient care at designated locations.

Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Assist in conducting imaging procedures.

2. Handle patient reception, PACS operations, and transport duties.

3. Verify patient clinical history in relation to procedures, ensuring documentation is accurate and accessible to the technologist and radiologist.


4. Aid in preparing and positioning patients for examinations, providing clear instructions to achieve desired outcomes, enhance cooperation, and reduce anxiety.

5. Support the selection and operation of imaging devices and accessories to effectively carry out procedures.

6. Position patients to optimally display the anatomical area of interest, considering patient comfort and capability.

7. Ensure patient immobilization as necessary for examinations.

8. Attend to the physical and emotional needs of patients during procedures.

9. Initiate basic life support when required.

10. Assist in determining radiographic techniques and exposure parameters.

11. Implement radiation protection principles to minimize exposure for patients, self, and others.

12. Process images and conduct quality control checks for proper identification.


13. Utilize radiology information systems (including PACS), completing all necessary records and reports, and submitting images for physician review.

14. Adhere to universal precautions and infection control protocols.

15. Assist with patient reception duties, including answering phones, greeting, and registering patients for imaging procedures. Prepare images for transfer to other facilities and import external images into PACS.

16. Uphold patient safety principles during procedures, including assisting and transporting patients.

Qualifications:

1. Currently enrolled in an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

2. Minimum of six months experience as a radiography student required.

Certifications:

1. Valid CPR or BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

Skills and Competencies:

1. Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and effectively communicating with groups.

2. Mathematical Skills - Proficient in basic arithmetic operations and able to interpret data in various formats.

3. Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems in standardized situations.

4. Computer Skills - Familiarity with manufacturing software, order processing systems, and word processing applications.

Physical Demands:

This position requires regular walking, using hands for handling tasks, reaching, climbing, and occasionally sitting. The employee must frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds, including patients using appropriate transfer equipment. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
