Job Summary

The Plant Utilities Engineer 1 will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment that provides heat, steam, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on equipment to prevent downtime and ensure optimal performance
  • Supervise and coordinate the work of Plant Utilities Assistants, helpers, contractors, and tradespeople
  • Participate in capital planning and improvement projects related to power-plant and laboratory system construction and maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations, including arc flash and lockout-tagout procedures
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement energy conservation opportunities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field, preferably in a laboratory or healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of general energy conservation methodology, laboratory capital equipment, specialized HVAC systems, and building management systems
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and possess a valid, unrestricted NYS motor vehicle license
  • Ability to obtain Dept. of Environmental Conservation certifications related to site-specific facility operation
