Position Summary:
We are seeking a Lead Propulsion Systems Engineer to play a crucial role in refining our processes for designing, constructing, testing, and delivering high-performance rocket engines. This position will involve contributing to the design and development of combustion technologies and assisting fellow engineers with their respective projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop innovative designs for combustion systems, focusing on monopropellant hydrazine thrusters and associated catalysts for in-space propulsion.
2. Modify existing components and prototypes to enhance performance, manufacturability, or to address specific limitations.
3. Collaborate with team members to create, review, and update assembly work instructions and establish suitable acceptance and qualification tests.
4. Oversee the assembly and testing of initial prototype articles.
5. Work closely with manufacturing, analysis, and testing teams to minimize part-to-part variation and discrepancies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
- Proficient in computer-aided design and drafting.
- Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as per ASME Y14.5.
- Hands-on experience with fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Strong grasp of industry standards and requirements.
- A proactive approach to ownership and teamwork.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet project timelines.
- Excellent problem-solving, task management, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with hypergolic propellants and catalyst bed utilization for decomposition.
- Practical testing experience with combustion systems.
- Proficiency in manual or CNC machining processes (milling, turning).
- Knowledge of design principles for additive manufacturing.
- Experience leading design reviews and documenting decisions.
- Coordination with analysis and lead engineers to expedite design maturation.
- Familiarity with structural and thermal analysis using Ansys FEA software.
- Proficient in PTC Creo or Siemens NX CAD programs and Windchill PLM software.
Compensation:
In accordance with Colorado law, the base compensation range for this role is $100,000 - $150,000, determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The salary range is intentionally broad to accommodate individual qualifications and fit for our team.
