Job Title: School Nurse

Job Summary:

The School Nurse will provide direct care to students, utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols. This includes initiating and maintaining accurate and confidential student health records, communicating with parents, and serving as a liaison between school personnel, healthcare professionals, and the community.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with school personnel to provide leadership and ensure a healthy school environment.
  • Provide direct care to students, including administering medications and developing individualized health care plans.
  • Initiate and maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
  • Communicate with parents and serve as a liaison between school personnel, healthcare professionals, and the community.
  • Attend Admission Review & Dismissal (ARD) meetings and develop individualized health care plans.
  • Collaborate with district personnel to implement health-related Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals and services.
  • Provide consultation to campus administration in crisis/emergency situations.
  • Supervise and train LVNs, unlicensed diabetes care assistants, and other school personnel as designated.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Texas Board of Nursing.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Expertise in student-specific case management plans for acute and chronic health conditions.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Strong organizational, communication, mentoring, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
