PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

The objective of this role is to uphold the infrastructure and visual appeal of the City, thereby enhancing the quality of life for its residents.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Street Maintenance Equipment Operator is tasked with skilled operations of heavy machinery. Duties are carried out following established protocols, with regular assessments during the execution and upon completion of tasks.

The operator will navigate the street sweeper under varying weather conditions and is expected to operate the equipment both during the day and at night amidst diverse traffic scenarios, including both low and high traffic volumes.

Routine maintenance of the machinery is a requirement, along with engaging in associated physical labor as necessary. Additional responsibilities may include performing other skilled, semi-skilled, or unskilled tasks related to equipment operation as directed.



KEY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Conduct maintenance and operation of machinery with minimal supervision.
Engage in physical tasks related to the construction, upkeep, and repair of streets, highways, buildings, and other facilities.
Maintain cleanliness of streets by removing debris, litter, leaves, and other contaminants.
Safely operate the street sweeper in compliance with all relevant city, state, and federal regulations.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and maintenance personnel.
Manage the disposal of dirt and debris collected by the sweeper.
Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment.
Perform daily inspections and maintenance of equipment.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Participate in other related physical labor activities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma along with some experience in street maintenance or related operations; lead-worker experience is preferred or any combination deemed acceptable by the hiring authority.

Licensing and Certifications: Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge and proficiency in the operational characteristics of assigned machinery. 2. Comprehensive understanding of work hazards and safety measures associated with the equipment. 3. Must be free from chemical dependencies. 4. Capability to obtain and maintain the necessary vehicle operator's license. 5. Ability to comprehend and execute both oral and written instructions. 6. Proficiency in preparing and maintaining routine work records and reports. 7. Physical ability to lift heavy items. 8. Capacity to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods under varying weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee frequently works outdoors in various weather conditions. The role often involves proximity to moving machinery and exposure to wet or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee must navigate precarious traffic situations and may occasionally encounter fumes or airborne particles.
  • Regular use of hands for handling, operating tools, or controls is required, along with reaching with hands and arms. 2. Frequent standing, talking, or listening is necessary. 3. The employee must walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, smell, and visually inspect streets while performing tasks. 4. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. 5. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 6. The employee must be able to work in a loud noise environment.
