Job Overview

The Accessioning Technician plays a crucial role in the laboratory environment, focusing on the reception, accessioning, and reprocessing of samples. This position involves receiving specimens, ensuring the integrity of the 'chain of custody' and other essential criteria, and preparing samples for subsequent analysis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive and verify all incoming laboratory specimens, ensuring compliance with identity and testing requirements.
  • Input specimen data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring precise demographic and testing request entries.
  • Maintain accurate specimen identification through barcode usage and adherence to 'Chain of Custody' protocols.
  • Prepare aliquots of specimens for initial testing and coordinate their delivery to the appropriate laboratories.
  • Store specimens according to established storage guidelines, facilitating easy retrieval post-initial testing.
  • Prepare and manage the delivery of specimens for additional, repeat, or confirmation testing as directed by the LIMS system or laboratory leadership.
  • Adhere to all safety and quality protocols within the laboratory environment.
  • Verify samples for disposal and notify relevant departments regarding low stock or supply needs.
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives, including defining processes, analyzing measurements, and implementing necessary controls.
  • Contribute to team efforts aimed at achieving departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Assist in data collection activities within the laboratory.
  • Exemplify leadership by sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues.
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with coworkers, clients, vendors, and visitors.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED is required; a Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior relevant laboratory experience is strongly preferred.
Work Schedule:
  • Tuesday to Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
