Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver professional nutrition services and programs to all eligible Government beneficiaries, including active duty military, their families, DoD civilians, and retirees.
- Plan, coordinate, implement, and assess nutrition-related education programs and services at the Health and Wellness Center (HAWC) in line with Air Force guidelines and community needs.
- Conduct nutrition assessments, provide counseling, and administer comprehensive nutrition prevention programs and chronic disease management protocols.
- Act as the nutrition consultant for the Director of Base Medical Services and collaborate with various agencies within the Air Force community.
- Work alongside HAWC staff to deliver programs in diverse community settings, including individual unit worksites and community facilities.
- Implement nutrition policies and program requirements as per directives from the Air Force Surgeon General and relevant health promotion directors.
- Assess the nutritional needs of the base population using sound epidemiological principles and analyze available assessment tools.
- Utilize evidence-based nutrition education and behavior change theories to develop, coordinate, and evaluate comprehensive nutrition programs aimed at improving health and preventing disease.
- Research and maintain materials and techniques necessary for effective nutrition program delivery.
- Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) for clients referred from the MTF and establish chronic disease management protocols.
- Ensure data quality management and compliance with reporting requirements.
- Document nutrition education and therapy in accordance with established guidelines and standards.
- Serve as the expert in nutrition education and MNT to support a comprehensive Air Force Fitness Program.
- Develop and evaluate nutrition-related training programs for professional staff.
- Participate in strategic planning to align Health Promotion Program goals with Air Force objectives.
- Communicate and coordinate nutrition programs with local leadership and beneficiaries.
- Employ social marketing tools to achieve program objectives.
- Engage in teleconferences, working groups, and symposiums related to nutrition education and programming.
- Deliver educational sessions and wellness programs as required.
- Maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in wellness or nutrition education.
- A Master's degree in nutrition education, health promotion, or community nutrition is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of dietetics principles and practices, including medical nutrition therapy.
- Familiarity with chronic diseases and their management through nutrition.
- Understanding of behavior change theories and techniques for effective nutrition promotion.
- Proficiency in adult learning theory and experience in conducting nutrition education sessions.
- Knowledge of the medical functions of Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) and relevant accreditation standards.
- Proficient in basic computer applications for documentation and presentations.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certification in Adult Weight Management by the American Dietetic Association (ADA) or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.
- Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
