Job Title: Substitute School Nurse LVN

Reports to: Health Care Coordinator

Department: Health Services

Location: Various Campuses as Needed

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Substitute School Nurse LVN to provide health services to students in the Wichita Falls Independent School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff, serving as a health advocate for students, and coordinating management systems to administer medications to students at school.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
  • Serve as health advocate for students.
  • Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
  • Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school.
  • Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Educational Agency, and district policy.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of campus health program.
  • Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
  • Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community.
  • Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals.
  • Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
  • Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary.
  • Communicate regularly with principal and health care coordinator regarding health services issues.
  • Review and evaluate immunization records.
  • Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to district policy.
  • Supervise and train LVN in clinic procedures and responsibilities.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of State Health Services rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
  • Report potential health and safety hazards to principal/designee.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
  • Valid registered RN license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners or LVN License.
  • Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct vision, hearing and spinal screening.
  • CPR/AED Certification.
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience, preferably in community or pediatric health.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
