School Nurse Substitute

Wichita Falls Independent School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse Substitute to provide health services to students and promote health education and preventative health practices.
Responsibilities:- Provide temporary and emergency care for sick and injured students or staff according to district policy and procedures.
- Serve as health advocate for students.
- Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases.
- Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school.
- Perform screening procedures as required by Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Educational Agency, and district policy.
- Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of campus health program.
- Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students.
- Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents and community.
- Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals.
- Participate in assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse.
- Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary.
- Communicate regularly with principal and health care coordinator regarding health services issues.
- Review and evaluate immunization records.
- Enforce procedures to ensure proper program administration according to district policy.
- Supervise and train LVN in clinic procedures and responsibilities.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
- Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of State Health Services rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in health services area.
- Report potential health and safety hazards to principal/designee.
- Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program.
- Valid registered RN license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners or LVN License.
- Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct vision, hearing and spinal screening.
- CPR/AED Certification.
- Minimum of two years nursing experience, preferably in community or pediatric health.
Maintain emotional control under stress. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
