Principal Database Engineer (DB2)

Underground Administration is seeking an experienced Principal Database Engineer (DB2) to join our Database Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing public and private cloud databases, focusing on design, build, and operational aspects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engineer mainframe database solutions to ensure optimal performance and scalability.
  • Evaluate, install, configure, and maintain DB2 for z/OS and related software to meet business requirements.
  • Perform DB2 system-level performance tuning to identify and resolve bottlenecks.
  • Automate database support procedures and DBA tasks to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Ensure data integrity and security by implementing robust data protection measures.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and disaster recovery tests to ensure business continuity.
  • Support distributed database connections using JDBC to facilitate seamless data exchange.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 15+ years of related experience in DB2 engineering and management.
  • Expertise in DB2 for z/OS and related software.
  • Experience with SMPE, DB2 maintenance, data sharing, performance monitoring/tuning.
  • Knowledge of DB2 disaster recovery and failure scenarios.
  • Familiarity with diverse workload applications (batch, RRS, CICS, WebSphere).
  • Understanding of DB2 database statistics and SMF records.
  • Experience with TSO/ISPF, JCL, RACF.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with BMC and CA Sysview tools.
  • Knowledge of IBM Infosphere Data Replication.
  • REXX and ISPF/CLIST programming.
