About the Role

Amergis is seeking a highly skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our team. As a Surgical First Assistant, you will play a vital role in patient care and assist surgeons preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Position patients with the surgeon's instruction to ensure optimal exposure for surgical procedures.
  • Use standard and specialized equipment to aid in patient positioning.
  • Provide the surgeon with appropriate visualization of the operative site using retractors, sponges, and other techniques.
  • Assist with temporary or permanent hemostasis using appropriate techniques.
  • Collaborate with the surgeon to select and apply appropriate wound dressings.
  • Assist with patient transport to and from the OR.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical assistant program with subsequent current certification/credential.
  • Compliance with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, coworkers, clients, and other stakeholders.
