About the Role

The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Georgia (ACLU of Georgia) is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Paralegal to join our team. As a Paralegal, you will play a vital role in supporting our Legal Department and contributing to our mission to preserve and expand individual rights.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative and litigation support to our Legal Director and staff attorneys, including formatting and finalizing legal documents, coordinating the legal intake process, and conducting intake interviews.
  • Assist attorneys in gathering and preparing materials for court hearings, depositions, and client meetings.
  • Format and file legal documents with courts, and interface with court clerks' offices as necessary.
  • Maintain internal litigation tracking, including a document summarizing the current legal department docket and calendar of litigation deadlines and court dates.
  • Submit monthly expense reports for the Legal Director and Staff Attorneys.
  • Arrange for service of legal documents and research court rules and procedures.
  • Perform general clerical and administrative duties, including copying, scanning, filing, and mailing.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating legal department meetings.
  • Attend departmental and issue-oriented meetings to stay updated on ongoing work.
  • Handle administrative tasks for the legal internship program.
  • Submit and monitor FOIA and Open Records Act requests.
  • As a member of the affiliate's support team, assist with overall office upkeep and cross-departmental meeting preparations and logistics.
  • Participate in special projects, committees, and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Associate degree, bachelor's degree, or paralegal certificate.
  • At least two years of work experience as a legal assistant or paralegal.
  • Familiarity with court rules and procedures.
  • Familiarity with PACER and other court filing systems.
  • Basic understanding of issues related to civil and constitutional rights.
