POSITION SUMMARY: The Personal Care Assistant is essential in fostering a nurturing environment for residents, delivering care and services tailored to their needs, while promoting an atmosphere of hope, dignity, and compassion. This role requires collaboration with residents, colleagues, families, medical personnel, visitors, and volunteers to cultivate a positive living space. Key responsibilities encompass personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation, activity facilitation, recordkeeping, and household financial oversight.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personal Care:
- Perform all duties with empathy, dignity, and respect for the Elder, accommodating individual preferences whenever feasible.
- Provide daily hygiene assistance, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and related personal care tasks.
- Assist residents with clothing needs, including purchasing, laundering, and repairs.
- Take and accurately record vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
- Monitor and report any changes in the Elder's well-being to the appropriate team member.
Housekeeping & Home Maintenance:
- Engage Elders in maintaining their living environment whenever possible.
- Ensure cleanliness of all areas in the Elder's surroundings according to established housekeeping protocols.
- Perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and tightening fixtures.
- Report any shortages, damages, or equipment malfunctions.
- Adhere to safety, emergency, and security procedures.
- Implement infection control measures as required.
Meal Preparation and Service:
- Collaborate with Elders to plan appetizing, balanced, and nutritious meals, allowing for flexibility in meal provision.
- Encourage participation in meal preparation, serving, and cleanup activities.
- Prepare and store food in compliance with food safety standards.
- Provide healthy snack options and manage grocery orders as per established procedures.
- Support Elders in adhering to any special dietary requirements outlined in their care plans.
Communication:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the Elder and their family.
- Keep nursing staff informed of any changes in the Elder's condition through timely reporting.
- Actively participate as a supportive and communicative team member.
- Engage in team meetings and conferences to discuss care strategies.
- Accurately document care and observations in the resident's clinical record.
- Order necessary supplies from appropriate departments.
- Encourage meaningful activities for Elders throughout the day, utilizing daily living opportunities.
Safety:
- Comply with safety regulations.
- Identify and report safety hazards.
- Utilize safety signage to alert others of potential hazards.
- Attend mandatory safety training sessions.
Mission/Customer Service:
- Embrace and promote the Eden Alternative philosophy, fostering a work environment enriched with nature.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in a human services or healthcare setting is advantageous. Completion of required training courses within specified timeframes is necessary.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge and skills obtained through completion of relevant training programs, including certification as a nursing assistant and completion of required food safety and abuse training.
Skills/Abilities:
- Strong writing, verbal, and observational skills are essential. Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational abilities are required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift, bend, walk, and stand for extended periods. Must be capable of lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
