Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled School Counselor/Social Worker to provide supportive counseling, consultation, and services to the linguistically, racially, and ethnically diverse students, their families, and the community at large at Lexington School for the Deaf.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individual counseling as mandated on the IEP for students ages 3-21 years old, promoting academic success and emotional well-being.
  • Counsel and support students and families as needed, fostering a positive and inclusive school environment.
  • Maintain accurate charts for assigned caseloads, ensuring effective case management and data-driven decision-making.
  • Conduct family counseling sessions as required, strengthening relationships and addressing family needs.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, promoting social skills development and emotional intelligence.
  • Collaborate with educational staff to develop and implement tailored programs, enhancing student outcomes.
  • Write mental health evaluations and social histories for referrals, providing comprehensive assessments and recommendations.
  • Evaluate psychiatric emergencies, including suicide evaluations, ensuring timely and effective interventions.
  • Participate in team meetings and in-service trainings, staying updated on best practices and sharing expertise.
  • Provide information on entitlement services, connecting students and families with essential resources.
  • Work closely with the school to develop and modify programs, aligning with the school's strategic planning initiatives.
  • Collaborate with community agencies, leveraging partnerships to enhance student support and services.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Social Work or Counseling, with relevant state or nationally recognized professional certification/licensure.
  • Proven experience in counseling and working with diverse populations, particularly in deaf and hard of hearing communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to establish rapport with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong time management, planning, and organizational skills, with ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. A comprehensive benefits package is also available, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
