St. James Academy is in search of a dedicated and skilled educator who is passionate about nurturing the next generation of leaders through a Christ-centered educational approach. Our institution emphasizes excellence and fosters a student-focused, Catholic-based curriculum that celebrates both cultural and intellectual diversity.
Key Responsibilities:The educator will fulfill instructional duties and responsibilities as designated by the school administration, including:
- Delivering music education aligned with the standards set by the Diocese of San Diego and the California State Standards for grades PS through 8.
- Integrating Catholic teachings and values into daily lessons and classroom interactions.
- Collaborating with the principal, fellow educators, and the parish music director to curate music selections for liturgical services.
- Providing musical direction, technical support, and piano accompaniment for school Masses on a weekly basis.
- Leading the after-school SJA Spirit Choir/Band and Inspire Choir, offering direction and accompaniment.
- Planning and executing engaging lessons in music theory, appreciation, singing, and instrumental skills such as recorder and ukulele.
- Overseeing the production and technical aspects of the annual Christmas program and Spring Variety Show.
- Monitoring student progress in music education and maintaining compliance with school policies.
- Creating a respectful and inclusive classroom environment that fosters empathy and compassion.
- Participating in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities.
- Regularly meeting with the principal to discuss student progress and curriculum.
- Maintaining open communication with parents regarding student development and classroom behavior.
- Ensuring a well-organized and tidy classroom environment.
- Upholding confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
Religious Qualifications:
- Active participation in the Roman Catholic faith is preferred.
- Basic Catechetical Certification is preferred.
Professional Qualifications:
- Experience in leading Catholic liturgies and traditions.
- Proficiency in piano, vocal performance, and music direction.
- A degree in Music Education or equivalent experience in music teaching and directing.
- Understanding of child development and effective classroom management strategies.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit.
The educator must be able to:
- Stand for extended periods while teaching.
- Occasionally sit for planning and administrative tasks.
- Move around the classroom and school facilities effectively.
- Engage with students at various levels, including kneeling or bending.
