Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and month-end close for cost accounting data, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review journal entries carefully for anomalies and other inconsistencies, and take corrective action as needed.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly accounting reports for submission to senior management, highlighting key trends and insights.
  • Conduct inventory reserve analysis on a quarterly basis, and generate reports for senior management to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and implement cost-saving initiatives, including suggestions for changes to policies or procedures to improve cash flow.
  • Review and analyze rates of depreciation, labor, and overhead, and make recommendations for policy changes to improve the bottom line.
  • Generate and analyze PPV reports, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
  • Establish and maintain standard costs, and update them as necessary to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Maintain and review the general ledger, and reconcile balance sheets to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Analyze costs of raw materials and other supplies, and create cost-benefit analyses for changing vendors to optimize costs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Experience with ERP systems and a strong understanding of financial software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
