Role Summary: The Lead Systems Architect is responsible for maintaining the stability, integrity, and efficient design of systems and applications that underpin essential organizational processes and operations. This position involves analyzing business challenges that can be addressed through automated systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Contribute to the formulation of strategic objectives and plans for systems and infrastructure, including capacity assessments for data center facilities and storage solutions.
  2. Conduct financial planning exercises and perform cost-benefit analyses (TCO/ROI) to provide clear recommendations to stakeholders.
  3. Research, design, and implement innovative technologies and solutions, both physical and virtual, aligned with business requirements and industry best practices.
  4. Guide subject matter experts and cross-functional teams in fulfilling business needs, addressing performance issues, and ensuring effective communication regarding configuration, capacity, and performance.
  5. Model environments and engineer performance for application tiers and infrastructure, providing recommendations for modifications to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  6. Collaborate with experts on the design and deployment of new systems developed by Surescripts, integrating infrastructure builds, application development, and service deployment processes.
  7. Identify necessary performance testing for Agile teams through design reviews, operational assessments, and test plans.
  8. Document the maintainability of new systems throughout their production lifecycle.
  9. Conduct testing to ensure cohesive system functionality, including load testing and environment configuration adjustments.
  10. Assess and document the capacity capabilities of infrastructure and the requirements for Surescripts-engineered systems, including application scaling.
  11. Establish configuration limits and analyze their impact on scalability, producing documentation to clarify configuration points.
  12. Define environment configurations for both existing and new systems developed by Surescripts.
  13. Document the physical system footprint, including environmental requirements such as power and space.
  14. Assist in resolving issues affecting the performance or reliability of production transactions.
  15. Recommend and implement policies, procedures, and technologies to ensure system security through controlled access, monitoring, and evaluation.
  16. Research and propose modifications to applications and infrastructure to enhance efficiency, reliability, and performance, adhering to established change control protocols.
  17. Ensure compliance with policies, standards, licensing agreements, and best practices for regulatory adherence.
  18. Oversee the implementation of system configuration backup and recovery processes to meet specified service level agreements.
  19. Maintain up-to-date system templates, firmware, and vendor-related patches.
  20. Perform standard configuration, management, and maintenance tasks for all systems, both physical and virtual.
  21. Monitor, test, and optimize system performance, providing reports and system log files as necessary.
  22. Develop and maintain policies and procedures to ensure consistent provisioning, uptime, and performance, focusing on automation and auto-provisioning of infrastructure.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, information sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Over 6 years of experience in a systems engineering role.
  • Proficiency in programming languages relevant to Surescripts, particularly Java and C#.
  • Experience with database and operating systems, including Unix, Microsoft Windows Server, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with platforms such as JBoss, J2EE, and .NET.
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN technologies, disk storage allocation, and virtual technologies.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, LDAP, NIS, and building high-availability environments.
  • Experience with message queuing technologies.
  • Solid understanding of current Internet technologies and hands-on software troubleshooting experience.
