Job Summary:

The Interventional Radiology Technologist is a vital member of the Bryan Health team, responsible for performing interventional and diagnostic x-ray procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. This role requires a strong understanding of radiologic technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients of all ages.

Key Responsibilities:

1. The Interventional Radiology Technologist will commit to the mission, vision, and core values of Bryan Health, consistently demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care.
2. Assist interventional radiologists in all types of interventional radiology procedures, including angiography, fluoroscopy, CT, OR, and ultrasound.
3. Practice radiation and laser safety for patients, staff, and self, adhering to hospital protocols and procedures.
4. Use sterile technique as required, maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.

  • Perform venipuncture, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
6. Optimize patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors, producing high-quality images for diagnosis and treatment.
7. Function in the first scrub role, preparing and organizing instruments, supplies, and equipment for safe patient care during interventional radiology procedures.
8. Recognize and communicate arrhythmias, monitoring arterial and/or venous pressure lines, and providing critical care as needed.
9. Competently operate all interventional radiology equipment and support systems, including HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, and teleradiology.
10. Utilize hospital and department computer systems, files, and PACS to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies, including patient clinical information.
11. Properly care for and image patients of all ages, maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
12. Coordinate exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care, communicating with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to ensure quality patient care.
13. Handle telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy, providing information to patients and families to reduce anxiety and convey a sense of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring.

  • Participate in the department's quality improvement plan, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to enhance patient care.
15. Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment as necessary, notifying supervisors of equipment problems and calling service vendors as needed.
16. Keep work areas properly supplied, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.

  • Assist with departmental orientation and student clinical education, providing guidance and support to new staff members and students.
18. Access and administer drugs and biologicals pertinent to essential job functions, adhering to Medical Center procedures and protocols.

Education and Experience:

Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Cardiovascular or Vascular Interventional certification preferred. Valid state medical radiographer license required.

Other Credentials/Certifications:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Electrocardiogram (ECG) certification required.
