Your Role
The Nutritional Specialist is tasked with conducting nutritional evaluations and formulating dietary plans for patients, leading educational sessions for individuals served and staff, and serving as a nutrition expert in line with all relevant dietary standards and regulations.
Working under the guidance of the Health Services Administrator (HSA) or Program Manager (PM), or another licensed medical professional, the specialist ensures that all patients receive suitable and effective nutritional care.
Ultimately, the Nutritional Specialist plays a vital role in assisting patients in achieving and maintaining optimal health through proper nutrition.
Key Responsibilities- Perform initial nutritional evaluations in accordance with state regulations and document findings in patient medical records, including written summaries of history, diagnosis, and treatment as required.
- Create and implement nutritional care plans, advise patients on dietary choices and food selection, and conduct educational sessions as necessary.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals and physicians as needed to meet the nutritional needs of patients and serve as a resource for staff regarding nutrition matters.
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including requirements for healthcare professionals, and submit timely annual Nutrition Service Plans and updates as required.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new staff as needed.
Education
High school diploma and specialized training for licensing/certification(s)
Experience
Minimum of one year of experience as a Nutritional Specialist
Experience in a correctional/detention environment preferred
Licenses/Certifications
Current (and must maintain) unrestricted Nutritional Specialist license in state of practice
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA preferred
