Your Role


The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is tasked with conducting nutritional evaluations and formulating dietary plans for the patient population, delivering educational sessions to both patients and staff, and serving as a nutritional expert in accordance with all relevant standards and regulations.

They operate under the guidance of the Health Services Administrator (HSA) or Program Manager (PM), or a higher licensed medical professional, ensuring that all patients receive suitable and effective nutritional care.

Ultimately, the Clinical Nutrition Specialist plays a vital role in assisting patients in achieving and maintaining optimal health through proper nutrition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform initial nutritional evaluations per state regulations and document findings in the patients' medical records, including comprehensive summaries of history, diagnosis, and treatment as mandated.
  • Create and execute nutritional care plans, advise patients on dietary strategies and food choices, and conduct educational sessions as necessary.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and physicians as required to meet the nutritional needs of patients and serve as a resource for staff regarding nutrition-related matters.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including healthcare professional practice act requirements, and submit timely annual Nutrition Service Plans and updates as needed.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new employees as necessary.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education

High school diploma and specialized training for licensing/certification(s)

Experience

Minimum of one year of experience as a Clinical Nutrition Specialist

Experience in a correctional/detention facility is preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Current (and must maintain) unrestricted Clinical Nutrition Specialist license in the state of practice

Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA

Current (and must maintain) lifesaving ACLS certification through AHA is preferred
