We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Care Specialist to join our team at Middlesex Health.
About the Job
As a Patient Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our patients receive timely and effective care. Under the direction of our Practice Manager, you will perform various clinical duties and assist our Providers in providing exceptional patient care.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Welcome patients to the practice and escort them to the exam room, taking note of any new patients and introducing yourself accordingly.
- Interview patients to verify their reason for visit, obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, height, and weight, as well as collect temperature and pulse oximetry readings for same-day acute visits.
- Document all patient information obtained in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) according to established policies and procedures.
- Confirm and record allergies, current medications, strength, frequency, refills required, and pharmacy of choice.
- Ensure that all relevant documentation, results, and reports related to the visit are available to the Provider for review with the patient.
- Assist Providers with patient exams and procedures as directed.
- Perform phlebotomy, collecting blood and other specimens, labeling, and preparing them for delivery to the lab, documenting these procedures in the EHR.
- Conduct routine in-office laboratory tests, documenting results in the EHR.
- Perform routine or diagnostic testing such as EKG and spirometry, providing reports to the Provider for review.
- Prepare treatment rooms, keeping them clean and stocked, as well as clean and sterilize instruments, disposing of contaminated supplies appropriately.
- Manage patient messages (telephone encounters) as delegated by licensed clinical staff/Provider.
- Prepare prescription refill documents for Provider review and signature.
- Maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely workflow for patients and Providers, notifying reception staff of any anticipated service delays.
- Verify the MH medical record number is listed in the patient's demographic information, obtaining and entering MRN from the Results system if necessary.
- Schedule patient appointments.
- Prepare patient referrals/authorization for specialist and hospital services.
- Assist with review and preparation of Home Healthcare Certifications and other documents (lab orders, diagnostics, etc.) as requested.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Medical Assisting Certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medications
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year experience working with electronic health records
- 1 year office-based physician practice experience
Benefits and Compensation
We offer a competitive salary range of $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including tuition reimbursement and quick commute access from I-84, Route 9, and surrounding areas.
