POSITION SUMMARY

The primary objective of the Nutritional Services Cook role is to prepare meals for residents within the facility, ensuring dietary requirements are met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administrative Duties:

  • Review menus before initiating food preparation.
  • Inspect specialized diet trays to confirm that the correct diet is provided to each resident.
  • Complete required documentation and reports as directed by the Dietary Manager or Dietitian.
  • Coordinate food preparation with other departments as needed.
  • Collaborate with the facility's dietitian to implement necessary dietary adjustments.
  • Adhere to all dietary protocols in accordance with facility policies.
  • Maintain and organize menus as per facility standards.
  • Assist in establishing efficient food service production lines to ensure timely meal preparation.
  • Process dietary changes and new diet plans received from Nursing Services.

Dietary Service Duties:

  • Prepare meals in alignment with planned menus.
  • Ensure meals are appealing and appetizing in presentation.
  • Serve food following established portion control guidelines.
  • Prepare therapeutic diets according to specified menus.
  • Utilize standardized recipes and special diet orders for meal preparation.
  • Prepare and serve nutritional supplements and snacks as required.
  • Ensure appropriate utensils and equipment are included with residents' meal trays.
  • Review care plans to verify that current dietary information aligns with the food served.
  • Prepare substitute foods for residents who decline the offered meals.
  • Make only authorized substitutions in food items.
  • Assist in meal service when necessary.
  • Participate in food preparation for special events and gatherings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

A minimum of a tenth (10th) grade education is required. A High School diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience:

At least one (1) year of experience as a cook or in food preparation is necessary. Experience in a healthcare setting is advantageous.
