About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Distribution Engineer to join our team at Leidos Engineering Inc. in Michigan. As a key member of our Power Delivery Services Team, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for our utility clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical distribution systems, including reviewing client-provided work and assessing requirements of scopes.
  • Interact frequently with clients to ensure that all applicable engineering and construction standards are met.
  • Perform engineering calculations, such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, and specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
  • Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for customer-related travel.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, with ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Candidates with experience specific to electric distribution design will be preferred.
  • Candidates possessing prior experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc, or similar will be preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation, and GIS.
  • Structural analysis, guying calcs, cable pulling calcs, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault currents calculations.
  • Work management software and job estimating software.
  • CAD tools.
