Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing direct and indirect speech/language therapy services to students under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP). The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the SLP, school staff, and Special Education team to provide services that meet the needs of students with speech and language disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct services to students, targeting speech/language goals and objectives in their Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs).
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, prepare materials, and create visuals for speech services provided to students.
  • Document student progress, including progress reports, annual IEP present levels of performance, and suggestions for skills to target in goals/objectives.
  • Provide indirect services to assist with transitioning skills into the general education classroom.
  • Conduct and assist with articulation screenings, including scheduling student sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the SLP or school administration.
Requirements
  • An Associate's degree from a speech-language pathology assistant program accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges or its equivalent as approved by the commission.
  • Or a Bachelor's degree in the discipline of communication sciences or disorders with additional transcript credit in the area of instruction in assistant-level service delivery practices and completion of at least 100 hours of supervised field work experience as a speech-language pathology assistant student.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to maintain these skills during high-stress and crisis situations.
  • Strong technology and computer skills, with the ability to create and write correspondence and other communication materials.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff, accepting feedback from the SLP/Supervisor while maintaining good relationships.
  • Ability to travel between buildings during the duty day, with work taking place in multiple school sites.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance, including completing an assigned day.
  • Ability to perform position responsibilities, including physical factors, work devices and materials handling, data functions, and people functions.
  • Speech Language Pathologist Assistant Certification is preferred.
