Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant II to join our team at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center Healthcare. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will work closely with occupational therapists to provide high-quality patient care and support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in evaluations and document results with sign-off by an occupational therapist.
  • Determine short- and long-term goals with input from patients, families, and caregivers; establish treatment programs based on evaluation results in consultation with occupational therapists and other team members.
  • Implement appropriate therapeutic interventions, progressing treatment plans in areas of self-care, activities of daily living, posture, positioning, and homemaking skills; teach patients and families activities to reinforce therapeutic interventions, provide and fit appropriate assistive and adaptive devices, and recognize patient distress signals that require follow-up.
  • Document treatment plans and progress; record data required for statistics, productivity, billing, performance improvement programs, and other relevant information.
  • Utilize the assistance of rehab techs and volunteers for housekeeping, transportation, and carry-over activities; provide supervision as required by regulations.
  • Identify barriers to patient care and consistently provide written and verbal patient education.
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary team members and senior therapists to discuss evaluation findings, patient progress, and other pertinent information.
  • Participate in discharge planning with the interdisciplinary team, recommending appropriate equipment, assistance, and continuation of the rehabilitation process as needed.
  • Act as a resource for new staff, volunteers, student shadows, and assigned medical residents who perform rotations within the department.
Requirements
  • AA degree from an occupational therapy assistant program.
  • Current Maryland license as a certified occupational therapy assistant.
  • Healthcare provider (CPR) certification.
  • At least 1 year of experience, with acute care experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy theories, practices, and standards.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to develop treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and schedule patients using time efficiently.
  • Skill in organization.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the use of standardized tests to support documentation.
  • Ability to manage an average caseload per productivity standard set.
  • Ability to be proficient in treating at least 2 high-risk patient populations.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn EMR navigation.
