Key Responsibilities:
- Examine prescriptions for accuracy, determine necessary components, and assess their appropriateness.
- Perform aseptic compounding of chemotherapy and biotherapy medications utilizing proper techniques within Chemotherapy Hoods.
- Evaluate the identity, strength, and purity of pharmaceutical products.
- Confirm patient details and ensure proper physician authorization.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous substances and waste in compliance with OSHA and NIOSH regulations.
- Execute mathematical calculations to ascertain correct drug measurements for compounding.
- Under supervision, prepare medications as prescribed by physicians, adhering to departmental protocols and USP 797/800 standards.
- Calculate accurate dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary systems.
- Maintain precise temperature logs and documentation for both hazardous and non-hazardous medications.
- Support inventory management of pharmaceuticals.
- Assist in the cleaning and upkeep of the compounding area and equipment.
- Properly dispose of all materials used in the preparation of IV medications.
- Manage medication entries and removals in the Nucleus System.
- Conduct routine medication inventories, monitoring for expired products and aiding in inventory control across various locations.
- Assist in the procurement of supplies and medications, including receiving and restocking.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from PTCB.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital or outpatient infusion environment, specifically with IV compounding.
- Prior experience in oncology is preferred.
- Experience in compounding chemotherapy or IV medications.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical terminology and calculations.
- Understanding of hazardous drugs.
- Ability to thrive in a self-directed team environment and manage high-volume demands effectively.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and committed to patient care.
- Proficient in regulatory guidelines USP 797/800.
- Comprehensive understanding of dosage calculations.
Compensation: Up to $30 per hour.
