The Precision Gear Machinist plays a crucial role in setting up, operating, and managing gear grinding machinery to produce high-quality finished gears.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate advanced gear grinding equipment, specifically the Klingelberg Viper 500, to manufacture high-precision gears.
  • Execute complex grinding tasks that necessitate intricate setups and a high level of precision.
  • Assess and select appropriate feeds, speeds, tooling, and operational sequences based on technical drawings and layouts.
  • Ensure a consistent supply of necessary tools for efficient machine operation.
  • Adhere to quality management system documentation as mandated.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Provide assistance with other manufacturing machinery as required.

Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of machining practices, typically gained through extensive hands-on experience.
  • Completion of a journeyman program in machining or equivalent experience of at least 8 years.
  • Proven ability to maintain tight tolerances in manufacturing processes.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, along with proficiency in reading technical drawings and understanding GD&T.
  • Capability to work autonomously and manage time effectively.
  • Familiarity with additional machinery (lathe, mill, CNC setup/programming, I.D./O.D. grinding, jig grinding) is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Understanding of quality management systems such as AS9100, NADCAP, and ISO 9001.
  • Knowledge of gear inspection techniques.
  • Awareness of the significance of individual contributions to product quality and safety.
  • Commitment to ethical practices in the workplace.
