Position Overview

The Director of Accounting is responsible for overseeing and executing the daily functions, strategic planning, and management of the Financial Affairs Office, which encompasses Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Payroll, Cash Receipting, and Capital Assets Management.


Compensation Structure:
Salary will be determined based on experience, within the range of $76,089 - $117,986 as per Salary Schedule C2.

This position is funded through a grant, and continued employment is subject to the availability of funds. This role does not confer non-probationary status, as the funding and duration are limited.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the financial and accounting operations of the Financial Affairs Office, including Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Payroll, and Grants Management.
  • Act as the primary contact for all operations within the Financial Office.
  • Support the Executive Director with financial analysis and cash flow forecasting.
  • Facilitate banking services for the institution, including stop payments and fund transfers.
  • Verify and process payroll direct deposit authorizations.
  • Assist in reconciling financial aid grants with the general ledger and ensure compliance with federal funding regulations.
  • Monitor daily cash receipts and expenditures.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Fiscal Services to authorize Grants and Contracts prior to budget initiation.
  • Prepare required reports for various educational and regulatory agencies, including annual financial statements.
  • Support reconciliation efforts for federal funds and assist in preparing managerial reports for senior leadership.
  • Oversee compliance documentation for vendors and manage 1098-T and 1099 submissions.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and assist in budget monitoring and preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with State of Alabama Bid Laws and monitor federal grant expenditures.
  • Participate in institutional planning and effectiveness initiatives.
  • Assist in policy development and enforcement within the college.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and supervise staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field; a Master's Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in accounting or a related field, preferably within an educational institution.
  • Proficiency in computerized accounting software and Microsoft Office; experience with Ellucian Banner is a plus.

  • Ability to lift and transport items up to 50 lbs.
