Position Overview
The Nocturnist is tasked with delivering thorough medical care to hospitalized patients, functioning both independently and in conjunction with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role involves direct inpatient management of medical patients within a hospital environment, ensuring comprehensive coordination of care.
Qualifications and Experience
- MD/DO Degree with valid licenses in NJ & PA. Board certification or eligibility in Family or Internal Medicine from the American Board of Medical Specialties.
- A minimum of 3 years of postgraduate training from an accredited residency program in family or internal medicine; prior experience as a primary care physician is preferred.
- Possession of DEA and CDS certifications (NJ Only).
- Exceptional communication abilities, organizational skills, and a strong work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct examinations, diagnose, and manage the treatment of hospitalized patients.
- Evaluate patients in the Emergency Department and follow their care through various settings, including Critical Care Units, Maternity, and Inpatient Units.
- Collaborate to enhance the management of specialty units and transitional care services, including rehabilitation centers and nursing facilities.
- Refer patients to specialists, social services, or other healthcare professionals as necessary.
- Ensure continuity of care by coordinating medical services and addressing patient needs effectively.
- Document patient discharge summaries and communicate them to primary care providers.
- Engage in ongoing education to maintain expertise and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Play a role in mentoring residents and allied health professionals.
- Supervise care provided by allied health staff, ensuring all admissions and discharges are appropriately documented.
- Lead resuscitation efforts, including Code Blue situations, and maintain AHA and ACLS certifications.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and meetings that support patient care.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent physical activities include standing, walking, bending, and fine motor tasks.
- Occasional activities may involve climbing, carrying objects, and various movements.
- Continuous requirements include effective communication and auditory skills.
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. from floor to waist and 5 lbs. from waist level and above.
- Visual and sensory acuity is essential for accurate patient assessment.
