Position Overview
The Nocturnal Medical Practitioner is tasked with delivering comprehensive healthcare services to patients during nighttime hours. This role involves working autonomously while also collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The practitioner will manage all facets of care for hospitalized patients, requiring a robust set of diagnostic, evaluative, and therapeutic skills alongside exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.

Qualifications and Experience

  • MD/DO Degree with active licenses in NJ & PA. Board certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties in Family or Internal Medicine, or board-eligible status in these fields.
  • A minimum of 3 years of postgraduate training from an accredited residency program in family or internal medicine; preferred experience includes 3+ years practicing as a primary care physician.
  • Possession of DEA and CDS certifications (NJ Only).
  • Demonstrated strong communication capabilities, organizational skills, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough examinations, diagnoses, and treatment plans for hospitalized patients.
  • Evaluate patients in the Emergency Department and manage their care as they transition to various inpatient settings, including Critical Care Units, Maternity, Observation, Medical/Surgical, Telemetry Units, hospice, and psychiatric units.
  • Collaborate effectively to enhance the operations of short-stay or specialty units, such as Pre-admission testing and Observation Units.
  • Support the management of transitional care services in rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and post-acute care clinics.
  • Facilitate referrals to medical specialists, social services, or other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Ensure follow-up on recommendations made by consultants.
  • Coordinate comprehensive medical care to meet the needs of patients.
  • Document patient discharge summaries and communicate them to primary care providers.
  • Engage in continuing education to maintain and enhance professional knowledge, actively participating in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the training and mentorship of residents and allied health providers.
  • Adhere to educational standards while supervising resident services.
  • Oversee the care provided by allied health professionals, ensuring all admissions and discharges are appropriately co-signed and documented.
  • Lead resuscitation efforts, including Code Blue and Rapid Resuscitation teams, ensuring AHA and ACLS certification.
  • Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and relevant meetings to facilitate patient care.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent physical activities include standing, walking, bending, reaching, and fine motor tasks.
  • Occasional activities may involve sitting, climbing, carrying objects, and twisting.
  • Continuous demands include effective communication.
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. from floor to waist and 5 lbs. from waist level and above.
  • Visual and auditory acuity are essential for accurate patient assessment.
