Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our team at CHRISTUS Health. As a key member of our OR team, you will provide high-quality patient care and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide routine and complex care to patients in the OR setting, utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient outcomes.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care, taking into account the patient's physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care and communication.
  • Administer medications and treatments, monitor for side effects, and document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers, identifying issues and resources.
Core CompetenciesStandard I: Utilizes the Nursing Process
  • Uses critical thinking skills to assess patient needs and develop individualized plans of care.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Implements patient care and therapeutic procedures, monitors and documents progression of treatment and teaching goals.
  • Evaluates the care and treatment provided to patients and their response to care and treatment.
Standard II: Patient Throughput & Patient Flow Process
  • Anticipates and plans for admission, discharge, and transfer needs to facilitate patient flow.
  • Utilizes appropriate systems of communication and tools to facilitate the discharge process.
  • Coaches others on tools and techniques for checking, cross-checking, and validating orders to ensure accuracy.
Standard III: Unit Operations
  • Plans, directs, and evaluates the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit during an assigned shift.
  • Demonstrates good stewardship in the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Assesses departmental staffing needs and actively participates in resourcing efforts.
Standard IV: Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations
  • Incorporates patient safety practices and guidelines to promote a safe environment resulting in positive patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrates accountability for nursing research and quality improvement activities.
  • Provides evidence-based nursing care.
  • Communicates patient information effectively across the continuum of care.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty, preferred.
  • BLS required.
  • RN License in the state of employment or compact.
