Job Overview

**Job Title:** Material Handler II

The Material Handler II is responsible for ensuring the efficient movement of materials throughout the facility and grounds by operating a variety of material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • **Pull and Load Vending Equipment:** Pull specific vending and cold drink equipment to fulfill sales request needs.
  • **Load and Unload Trailers:** Load and unload trailers, as needed, to support delivery activities following company SOPs to ensure accuracy by updating SAP and CONA via handhelds for accountability of Inbound and outbound loads.
  • **Perform Safety and Housekeeping Activities:** Perform all safety and housekeeping activities, including conducting pre-and post-trip checks, reviewing daily documentation for accuracy, and keeping the work area neat and clutter-free.
  • **Operate Material Handling Equipment:** Utilize a switcher to maneuver 53' and pup trailers to the dock as needed.
  • **Perform Miscellaneous Activities:** Perform miscellaneous activities as directed, assist with staging equipment and other movements, including junking equipment and yard maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • **Working Knowledge of Safety Principles:** Working knowledge of basic safety principles, including proper lifting and use of personal protective equipment.
  • **Advanced Forklift Skills:** Advanced forklift skills (single-wide), with the ability to operate forklifts safely and efficiently in a small area.
  • **Basic Pallet-Jack Skills:** Basic pallet-jack skills.
  • **Rudimentary Mechanical Skills:** Rudimentary mechanical skills and simple tool usage.
  • **Ability to Operate Multiple Pieces of Machinery:** Ability to operate multiple pieces of simple machinery.
  • **Read and Follow Written SOP's or Instructions:** Read and Follow written SOP's or instructions.
  • **Complete Forms:** Complete forms (handwritten and, or computer-based) to document activities and results.
  • **Follow Verbal Instructions:** Follow verbal instructions.
  • **Intermediate Math Skills:** Intermediate math skills.
  • **Thorough Understanding of Productivity:** Thorough understanding of elements contributing to productivity.
  • **Ability to Assess Order Building and Loading Workflow:** Ability to assess order building, loading workflow and choose optimum pick, load path.
  • **Ability to Simultaneously Manage Multiple Processes:** Ability to simultaneously manage multiple processes to support overall system efficiency.
  • **Ability to Count Received and Compare to Manifest:** Ability to consistently count received and compare to manifest with a high degree of accuracy.
  • **Ability to Load Trucks Following Documentation:** Ability to consistently load trucks following documentation with a high degree of accuracy.
  • **Strong Communication Skills:** Possess strong communication skills.
  • **Ability to Work in Extreme Temperatures:** Must be able to work in extremely high and low temperatures, noisy conditions, slippery walking surfaces, and broken glass.
  • **Occasional Lifting:** Occasionally lifting over 25 lbs. and rarely up to or over 50 lbs.
  • **Ability to Sit for Long Periods:** Ability to sit for long periods.
  • **Frequent Getting On and Off of a Forklift:** Frequent getting on, off of a forklift.
  • **Opening and Closing Truck Dock Doors:** Opening and closing truck dock doors.
Minimum Qualifications
  • **Forklift, Pallet Jack Certification:** Forklift, pallet jack certification.
  • **Switcher Operation Certification:** Switcher operation certification.
  • **Class A CDL:** Class A CDL where required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • **Previous Experience in Logistics:** Previous experience in a logistics environment.
  • **Understanding of Truck and Trailer Loading Strategies:** Understanding of truck, trailer loading strategies, and weight distribution principles.
