Position Overview
This role involves acquiring skills in the Metallurgical Technician field, including Metallography, Mechanical Testing, and Chemical Laboratory procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Gain proficiency in routine chemical analysis techniques.
- Understand and implement acid disposal protocols in line with established guidelines.
- Learn to prepare lubricants, coatings, or compounds following specific formulations.
- Oversee the analytical control of chemical processes, including metal cleaning and coating applications.
- Prepare metal samples for metallographic analysis through mounting and polishing techniques.
- Manage material movement in the designated area while maintaining accurate records.
- Conduct mechanical and electropolishing as directed, applying appropriate etchants for structural evaluation.
- Replicate and shadow replicas as necessary.
- Set up and operate testing apparatus according to established work instructions.
- Utilize various measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, and micrometers.
- Document data and prepare basic charts and tables under supervision.
- Coordinate testing activities across different Quality Department areas.
- Monitor metal removal processes in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Support compliance with ISO 9002/AS9100A, Nadcap, and ISO 17025 standards.
Basic Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Understanding of metallurgical processes and testing, typically gained through education or 2-4 years of relevant experience.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in quality control.
- Associate degree in Metallurgy.
- Experience with metallographic evaluations.
- Familiarity with hazardous materials.
- Background in hazardous materials testing and mechanical testing, including tensile and creep testing.
- Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies.
