Andrus Children's Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Classroom Teacher to join our team. As a Classroom Teacher, you will be responsible for providing direct instruction to students with diverse needs, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment.

About the Role

This is a 10-month position, with a 6-week summer program. You will work Monday through Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm, with one designated day per week for staff conference from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Instruction: Provide direct instruction to students in various subject areas, aligned with the New York Learning Standards.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with milieu therapists/assistants, social workers, parents, and other professionals to develop individualized IEPs and support student progress.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, organized, and respectful classroom environment, adhering to agency policies and procedures.
  • Communication: Regularly update parents and stakeholders on student progress, participating in quarterly planning conferences and issuing report cards.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • New York State Certification in Elementary or grades 7-12 ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies with Special Education Extension.
  • Teaching experience, preferably in a special education setting.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations, demonstrating sensitivity and competency in addressing unique needs and backgrounds.
Physical and Travel Requirements

This role requires:

  • The ability to sit, stand, walk, run, climb stairs, and lift weights of up to 30 lbs.
  • Possession of reliable transportation, with occasional travel required (10%).
  • Participation in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training and physical restraint evaluation.

Salary Range

The estimated salary for this position is $55,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
