Purpose of Position:

The Packaging Materials Specialist will coordinate day-to-day activities of the Packaging Department, facilitating operations around the world with the support needed to conduct business. This includes packaging oracle-related needs, artwork approvals, standards development, and technical support. The successful candidate will also be responsible for gathering and organizing information from stakeholders to kick-start new and upcoming packaging projects.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Maintain, update, and continually improve the Corporate Packaging Materials Specifications Databases.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather and organize information required prior to kicking off a new project.
  • Work with operations around the world to develop and generate new DM Packaging Oracle Item numbers and descriptions, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Prepare training materials and conduct training as needed to ensure packaging oracle descriptions meet the standards set by the Packaging Department.
  • Responsible for transferring structure and technical graphics files of packaging materials to outside vendors for manufacturing.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving packaging graphics and technical specifications to outside vendors prior to manufacturing.
  • Coordinate with Product Management Teams to create or transfer packaging graphics for third-party co-packers packing under the Del Monte brand.
  • Provide basic CAD design support to other department members in the preparation of basic die lines or 3D files.
  • Responsible for coordinating Packaging Laboratory Tests with internal or outside laboratories.
  • Serves as the primary contact person for outside vendors, DM Production operations, and the Purchasing Team for technical questions regarding existing corrugated packaging.
  • Responsible for generating and optimizing box palletization patterns in the TOPS Software.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Minimum Skills Required:

  • A degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a position related to packaging materials.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, primarily Microsoft Excel.
  • Initiative to inquire and learn about new packaging materials and sustainability.
  • Working knowledge in Adobe Illustrator and Artios CAD Design.
  • Effective organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills.
  • Impeccable attention to detail.
  • Strong work ethic with a high sense of urgency, accountability, and initiative.

Preferred But Not Essential:

  • Understanding of the technical attributes of different raw materials used to manufacture packaging for the food produce industry.
  • Knowledgeable of Packaging laboratory testing standards and procedures.
  • Knowledge in TOPS palletization software, PDS (Pallet Design System).
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.
