The Office Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of construction projects. This position involves a variety of essential tasks including the assessment of daily reports from inspectors for precision, the organization and upkeep of monthly estimates and material certification documentation, and the management of change orders as necessary. The Office Engineer will also oversee budget monitoring, schedule adherence, submittal tracking, and the maintenance of project files and records. Additionally, this role includes the preparation of meeting minutes and correspondence related to the job.
Key Responsibilities
In carrying out the primary functions of this role, the Office Engineer will frequently need to:
- Maintain a stationary position for extended periods.
- Handle and examine documents, materials, and equipment pertinent to the role.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and clients through professional channels.
- Occasionally navigate the job site, which may involve climbing or descending ladders and positioning oneself to access necessary materials and equipment.
- Lift and/or move items weighing up to 10 lbs. as required for monitoring and inspections.
- Utilize strong visual skills, including depth perception, for conducting inspections.
- Occasionally operate a motor vehicle or utilize public transportation, which may involve remaining stationary for extended periods.
Qualifications
• A willingness to learn and adapt is essential.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, and other relevant software used in design and construction.
• Ability to effectively communicate with the Resident Engineer, Contract Staff, and Facility Staff in person and through two-way communication systems.
• Familiarity with the Manual for Uniform Recordkeeping (MURK), Site Manager, and Computerized Engineers Estimate System (CEES and APPIA) is necessary, along with experience in NYSDOT recordkeeping.
• Strong organizational skills, interpersonal abilities, and attention to detail are crucial.
• A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with at least one of the following qualifications:
- Valid NICET Level III or IV Certification
- Valid Professional Engineering License
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
• NY PE certification is preferred.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in construction inspection or management, particularly in infrastructure projects (highway/sewer/water), is required.
• Training in OSHA 30-Hours Construction Safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Permit Required Confined Space Entry is necessary.
• Certifications such as ACI Concrete Inspector and Work Zone Safety are desirable.
