Job Overview

Position Summary

The role involves acquiring materials and managing procurement processes for various products and services, including raw materials, equipment, tools, and supplies. The position also entails limited production planning responsibilities and close collaboration with manufacturing and finance teams to facilitate annual inventory management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage the MRP system to oversee daily purchase orders, inventory management, delivery timelines, and potential risks related to shortages or excess stock.
  • Evaluate and process requisitions for goods and services.
  • Engage with suppliers to gather product information, pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
  • Assess products for purchase through testing and examination.
  • Prioritize and expedite orders to meet production timelines, especially in urgent situations.
  • Estimate costs based on market knowledge.
  • Review bids and negotiate contracts within budgetary constraints.
  • Collaborate with quality control teams to address issues with procured materials.
  • Stay informed about market trends and changes in business practices relevant to assigned materials.
  • Work with manufacturers to customize products based on specific user requirements.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records and a current database of vendor information.
  • Coordinate with finance to monitor physical inventory and assist in annual inventory counts.
  • Learn to adjust the manufacturing schedule as needed.
  • Implement and manage a Kanban system for raw materials to ensure adequate supply levels.
  • Cross-train to provide support for the Expeditor role.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma is required; an associate's or bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience in purchasing steel and raw materials is highly valued.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with MRP software is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks while managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Capability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Strong negotiation skills.

Work Environment

  • Typical office environment with moderate noise levels in a manufacturing setting.
  • Exposure to various conditions in indoor and outdoor manufacturing areas, including high noise levels and fluctuating temperatures.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to use close vision and focus on tasks.
  • Regular communication and mobility are required, including sitting, standing, bending, and walking.
  • Frequent use of hands for typing and operating office equipment.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary.
  • Consistent attendance is essential for this role.
