Spear Bio is an innovative and rapidly expanding start-up located in Woburn, Massachusetts, dedicated to revolutionizing the market with a cutting-edge ultrasensitive immunoassay platform that utilizes minimal sample volumes. Our primary focus is to support life sciences, clinical, and academic research through our platform, which is designed to provide unparalleled sensitivity, consistency across laboratories, and adaptability.

We are in search of a highly creative scientist with a demonstrated history in DNA nanotechnology, workflow automation, and/or immunoassay method development to become a vital member of our R&D team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in propelling our technology forward by overseeing various elements of platform development and ensuring the reliability of assay workflows, from initial proof-of-concept stages to late-stage clinical validation. This position will report directly to the Head of Platform Development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and validate innovative DNA-based assays, contributing to the enhancement of our technology.
  • Design and refine assay workflows, executing experiments to validate feasibility, assess performance, and guarantee robustness.
  • Direct the creation of high-throughput and automated Spear Assay workflows.
  • Remain informed about emerging technologies and pertinent literature, conducting thorough reviews to guide project decisions.
  • Mentor junior staff, supervising their projects and assignments.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline; a minimum of 2 years of postdoctoral and industry experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in DNA nanotechnology, workflow automation, and/or immunoassay method development with ambitious timelines and deliverables.
  • Strong analytical and programming capabilities in Python, R, and/or MATLAB.
  • Experience with instrumentation and LabVIEW programming is advantageous.
  • Advanced familiarity with sensitive analytical platforms such as Olink Multiplexed Immunoassays, Meso Scale Discovery (MSD), Luminex, and/or Quanterix Simoa.

  • Ability to work autonomously while comprehending the underlying theory and biology of applications and products.
  • Exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills, capable of fostering collaborative relationships across teams.
  • Outstanding project management abilities, with the capacity to manage and prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Woburn, MA, 100% of the time.
