Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our Rheumatology team at The University of Kansas Health System. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient flow of patients through our healthcare setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate examination and treatment of patients in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service.
  • Contribute to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, and organizing clinic/exam rooms.
  • Assist physicians, nurses, and other medical staff with special procedures and examinations as defined on the competency checklist.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care.
  • Record elements of the patient history for clinical staff review.
  • Ensure data collected for completed procedures is recorded on appropriate forms and in medical records.
  • Maintain medical records, ensure all required documentation is available, and distribute reports and correspondence.
  • Perform clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification of tests, procedures, and medications, processing insurance forms, and preparing financial records.
  • Perform simple procedures as directed by the nurse or physician and as defined on the competency checklist.
  • Perform vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures and document in medical records.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or CCMA or NCRMA certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or NCRMA (preferred)
