At Miami Dade College, we are seeking an exceptional Academic Leader to join our Mathematics Department as the Department Chairperson. This is a unique opportunity for a dedicated professional to make a meaningful impact on the educational experience of our students.

The Department Chairperson will serve as a key member of the College and Campus administrative team, providing academic leadership and vision to the Mathematics Department. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement curricula: The successful candidate will oversee the development and revision of curricula, ensuring that they align with the College's academic goals and standards.
  • Schedule courses and faculty assignments: With a focus on student success, the Department Chairperson will develop course schedules and assign faculty members to ensure optimal learning experiences.
  • Supervise personnel: This role involves hiring, supervising, and evaluating personnel, including faculty and staff, to ensure a high-performing team.
  • Teach and engage in scholarly activities: As a key aspect of this position, the Department Chairperson will teach at least one course within the discipline per academic year and participate in scholarly activities.
  • Manage budgets and resources: With a focus on fiscal responsibility, the successful candidate will prepare and maintain departmental budgets and manage lab equipment, technology, and other departmental resources.
  • Ensure program quality and student advisement: The Department Chairperson will provide program information and ensure the availability of advisement services for students, promoting their academic success.
  • Represent the department on campus and college-wide committees: This role requires active participation in various committees, fostering collaboration and advancing the interests of the Mathematics Department.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Mastery of mathematics and related fields: A Master's degree in a mathematics or science-related field is required, along with five years of combined experience in education.
  • Accreditation knowledge: Familiarity with accreditation agencies' requirements is essential for this role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals and groups, are necessary for success.
  • Budget management and supervision: Experience with budget preparation and management, as well as the ability to supervise and train staff, is vital for this position.
  • Ability to work flexibly: The successful candidate must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of the department and the College.

Possible salary range: $85,000-$115,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
