Position Title: Residential Counselor Weekend Awake Overnight Shift

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Residential Program Manager, the Residential Counselor plays a crucial role in delivering personalized care and assistance to individuals residing in group homes. This position focuses on equipping residents with essential life skills, fostering their independence, and encouraging active participation in their communities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a human services field (e.g., Psychology, Social Work) is preferred, or relevant experience may be considered.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience working with individuals with autism is required for candidates with only a high school diploma. For those with an Associate's degree, one year of related experience is necessary.

Skills: Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal abilities, showcasing patience and empathy in various situations. Effective organizational skills are essential for managing casework for assigned residents. Proficiency in standard business software applications (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email) is also required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides one-on-one support to residents, assisting with daily living activities such as money management, housekeeping, cooking, personal hygiene, social interactions, and leisure activities.
  • Creates and maintains a warm, safe, and nurturing environment conducive to the residents' growth and development. Aids residents in selecting new or replacement furnishings for their living spaces.
  • Implements and documents the individual activity schedules for residents, ensuring alignment with their Individual Plans (IP).
  • Participates in the development and implementation of Individual Plans, notifying the Residential Supports Advisor of any necessary reviews prior to the annual assessment.
  • Collaborates with the Residential Program Manager to manage residents' personal finances, teaching effective money management strategies to those in need.
  • Utilizes the CIMS system for communication, data reporting, and incident documentation related to the individuals supported in the program.

REQUIRED TRAINING/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

  • Completion of training in Behavioral Principles and Strategies (BPST) is mandatory.
  • Annual recertification in BPST is required.
  • A valid driver's license and completion of defensive driving training are necessary, with the ability to operate personal and program vehicles as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This role necessitates regular communication, manual dexterity, and the ability to reach with hands and arms. Candidates must possess specific vision capabilities, including close vision. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting items over 20 pounds are integral to this position. Employees must also be capable of performing non-adverse physical interventions with individuals of varying physical attributes as outlined in the BPST training.
