Transformative Education Experience

We are seeking a Visiting Faculty member to join our interdisciplinary team, leading an innovative climate change program. As a traveling faculty member, you will guide students through experiential learning in four diverse cultural and socio-ecological contexts.

About the Program

IHP Climate Change: The Politics of Land, Water and Energy Justice is a semester-long program that enrolls 16-32 students from top U.S. colleges and universities. Students explore the world's most productive and vulnerable landscapes, analyzing challenges and solutions to climate change impacts. Through classroom and experiential learning, students engage with researchers, farmers, activists, social entrepreneurs, NGOs, and policymakers.

Responsibilities
  1. Facilitate student learning through teaching two courses: Political Economy and Environmental Change since 1492, and Fieldwork Ethics and Comparative Research Methods.
  2. Facilitate learning through non-lecture program components, providing timely feedback on assignments.
  3. Work with the Provost & Dean of Faculty, Program Director, and Country Coordinators to resolve academic, administrative, and student problems.
  4. Take measures to protect students' health and safety, in partnership with SIT Student Affairs, Program Director, and local staff.
  5. Ensure all students traveling on official group flights are checked-in and through immigration.
  6. Collect receipts for expenses incurred and complete expense reports according to World Learning financial policies.
Requirements

We seek a candidate with:

  • A terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in political economy, sociology, anthropology, history, geography, or other relevant field.
  • Experience teaching at the college level, with a strong commitment to experiential learning.
  • Experience living and working abroad, ideally in one of the program countries.
  • Research and/or practical experience at the interface of environment/development.
  • Ability to meet physical, emotional maturity, and mental health demands, as well as possess personal qualities needed for this intensive study abroad program.
Estimated Salary Range

$28,000 - $32,000, commensurate with experience.
