The University of Miami is currently seeking an Advanced Mammography Specialist
  • Level 2 to work at Lennar Foundation Medical Center.
The incumbent is responsible for executing intricate procedures in Mammography through the operation of radiographic apparatus to acquire the highest quality diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure. Independent judgment, creativity, and initiative are essential, along with accountability for designated areas, procedures, and equipment. Supervise daily operations in the absence of the modality Chief Technologist or Radiology Manager.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
  2. Supervise and perform diagnostic imaging studies under the guidance of a radiologist.
  3. Assist in the education and training of new physicians.
  4. Collaborate with radiologists and PhDs in developing innovative protocols and imaging techniques unique to the facility.
  5. Engage in research initiatives and the development of research protocols.
  6. Act as a team leader on a routine basis.
  7. Monitor the charging of procedures and supplies daily to ensure accuracy.
  8. Demonstrate equipment for site visits for visiting physicians and administrators.
  9. Provide in-service training sessions within the section.
  10. Review and assess the order for a Mammography scan to ensure awareness of procedures requested, patient's condition, and any special notes or comments.
  11. Ensure that orders are appropriate for the type of exam recommended by the physician, notifying the supervisor of any discrepancies.
  12. Identify patient service requirements by establishing rapport with patients and others.
  13. Verify the patient's identity by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical records and wristbands.
  14. Always obtain necessary consents and provide education.
  15. Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of Mammography scanners and related equipment, adhering to prescribed radiation safety procedures under the supervision of a Radiologist.
  16. Integrate diagnostic and laboratory results, patient history, and medical records, adapting exams as necessary while adhering to Mammography protocols.
  17. Demonstrate complete competence in performing Mammography scans as ordered.
  18. Assist in positioning patients appropriately for Mammography scans using necessary immobilization and protective equipment.
  19. Maintain proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines.
  20. Assist radiologists with imaging procedures, including starting IVs and injecting contrast, if applicable.
  21. Evaluate Mammography scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence, and appropriately label them for transmission to PACS.
  22. Charge procedures and supplies accurately in the system.
  23. Maintain accurate patient records and gain patient cooperation by alleviating anxieties and providing explanations of treatment.
  24. Address the physical and psychological needs of patients during scanning procedures and initiate life support measures if necessary.
  25. Keep the work area clean and sanitary, stocking exam and dressing rooms with required supplies.
  26. Report unusual findings promptly to the appropriate Radiologist or supervisory personnel.
  27. Schedule patients for procedures and assist with clerical functions.
  28. Provide assistance with the orientation and training of new Mammography technologists.
  29. Provide education and training to student technologists.
  30. Adhere to hospital and department HR policies.

Adhere to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to:

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology/Diagnostic Imaging Program.

Certification and Licensing:
Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer. ARRT registered with ARRT certification in Mammography required. CPR and BLS certification required.

Experience:
Three (3) years of relevant experience required.
