Job Summary

Argo Group is seeking a skilled Underwriter to join our team in the NY Construction market. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing underwriting data to determine risk acceptability, calculate premium, and determine/confirm proper terms for acceptable risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review complex policies to verify acceptability based on company underwriting guidelines and granted underwriting authority.
  • Determine whether to accept, modify, or decline risks.
  • Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned brokers.
  • Consult with general agents to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain underwriting guidelines.
  • Assist in the training of departmental personnel.
  • Provide technical expertise to the Underwriting department in determining rate and product changes and during Product Line Reviews.
  • Create, analyze, and interpret data from various reports.
  • Accountable for the performance of assigned underwriting territory, including growth and profitability.
  • Manage assigned underwriting territory, including management of agents and travel to agent offices.
  • Complete all assigned tasks according to department standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or three to five years related insurance experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of two to four years NY Construction underwriting experience with authority.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Previous insurance educational work (AINS, CRIS, CPCU).
  • Detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Proficient in the use of computer programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
