Installation and Assembly Mechanic

Alamo Group is seeking a skilled Installation and Assembly Mechanic to join our team in Fond du Lac, WI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up assembly jobs by locating parts and gathering materials according to work orders.
  • Layout and position wire harnesses, subassemblies, and hoses according to prints.
  • Align, position, and assemble components using hand tools, including impacts and torque tools.
  • Install moving parts such as engines, clutches, pumps, hoses, and bearings.
  • Drill, tap, or ream holes as necessary.
  • Fabricate and weld parts using MIG wire, as needed.
  • Paint small parts with touch-up as necessary.
  • Test portable hydraulic units and plumb them to the unit.
  • Use overhead cranes and jib cranes to maneuver and assemble large assemblies.
  • Test units as needed with hydraulic pressure gauges, checking for pressure and leaks.
  • Perform and document pre/post inspections.
  • May transport vehicles in a safe and respectful manner.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of the function, operation, and maintenance of heavy mobile equipment.
  • Knowledge and basic understanding of metal product assembly techniques.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Able to read and interpret blueprints and assembly instructions.
  • Knowledge of basic electrical principles and hydraulics.
  • Able to use hand and power tools.
  • Able to perform basic measurements using a tape measure, protractor, and other measuring devices.
  • Able to operate a manual hand truck and overhead crane.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment.
  • Able to work overtime and/or including weekends as production schedules dictate.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a minimum of two years of experience in heavy truck/construction equipment installations, repair, and maintenance, or any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred with previous heavy assembly experience; preferably in a manufacturing production environment.
