POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Audiology Support Specialist plays a vital role in the operations of a medical practice, providing essential assistance to audiologists in delivering high-quality patient care. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including patient management, administrative tasks, and support during clinical procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Professionally handle incoming calls, schedule appointments, and address patient inquiries with comprehensive knowledge of available services and products.
- Monitor and verify the status of workers' compensation claims and necessary authorizations.
- Support audiologists by managing patient overflow, conducting hearing screenings, performing diagnostic audiometry, and assisting with hearing aid evaluations and repairs, while meticulously documenting all activities.
- Provide assistance to walk-in patients as needed.
- Prepare equipment for Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) and Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE) testing, offering support during these procedures.
- Receive and check in deliveries, including new hearing aid orders and repairs.
- Assist in coding invoices for review by the Director of Audiology.
- Maintain an inventory of office supplies, including hearing aid batteries, brochures, and necessary forms.
- Manage the patient database and ensure timely reminder notices are sent out.
- Proactively identify departmental needs to enhance office efficiency and assist colleagues as required.
- Perform the duties of absent staff members when necessary.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Preferred: State of Florida Audiology Assistant license at the time of hire, with the requirement to obtain licensure within eighteen months of employment.
- Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification in line with American Heart Association standards.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare setting, ideally within a physician's practice.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
- Occasional standing and walking, up to one-third of the time.
- Frequent keyboarding and dexterity activities, occurring three-quarters of the time.
- Capacity to focus on a computer screen for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and finger motions consistently.
- Flexibility to work in various positions (standing, sitting, bending, and walking) for prolonged durations.
- Effective verbal communication skills are essential.
- Visual and auditory capabilities are required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequent interruptions may occur during daily tasks.
- Availability to assist customers and staff throughout the day is necessary.
- Extended hours may be required to meet departmental needs.
- Experience in both clinical and administrative operations within a medical practice is essential.
