Sterile Processing Technician II

As a Sterile Processing Technician II at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of infection control and quality assurance in our Sterile Processing Department. Under direct/indirect supervision, you will follow established policies and procedures to collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and packs, reusable medical devices, and patient care equipment for inpatient Nursing and Medical Office departments.
Key Responsibilities:- Adhere to hand washing requirements, standard precautions, sterility assurance, biological monitoring, and dress code to maintain a safe working environment.
- Validate and maintain event-related protocols, disinfection and/or sterilization load parameters and records, inventory check sheet(s), and equipment monitoring to ensure quality assurance.
- Accurately document and maintain daily records of all QA and sterilization functions according to regulatory agency and Infection Control standards.
- Participate in department employee orientation, meetings, and employee evaluation and competency programs to support staff development.
- Assist in departmental inservices and training to maintain current Sterile Processing Technician Certification.
- One year experience in instrument processing.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology to understand instrumentation, surgical procedures, and surgical schedule.
- Knowledge of various types of reusable surgical instrumentation, including power equipment and micro surgical instrumentation.
- Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Ambulatory Surgery Technician Certification, Instrument Specialist Certificate, Registered Central Service Technician Certificate, or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Technician Certification.
