Job Summary

We are seeking a highly accomplished and visionary leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the VCU School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of academic excellence, research productivity, and leadership experience in a department or institution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the department, aligning with the School of Medicine's goals and objectives.
  • Lead and manage a diverse team of faculty, staff, and students, fostering a culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Oversee the department's research program, promoting innovation, productivity, and external funding.
  • Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, ensuring high-quality education and training.
  • Engage in service to the department, school, and university, representing the department's interests and promoting its mission.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, or a related field.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Academic rank of Professor with a strong record of research productivity and leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure external funding and lead research initiatives.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, and advising students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
