Histotechnician Specialist

Job Summary:
As a Histotechnician II at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, you will work under the supervision of the Histotech Coordinator and the Pathologist. Your primary responsibility will be to consult with and inform the Coordinator and Pathologist of your activities, needs, and problems. You will be required to comply with established standards, practices, procedures, and policies. Additionally, you will assemble supplies and equipment, maintain a clean work area, and prepare and keep records and reports for the Pathology Department. You will also be responsible for filing, mailing, and calling reports, as well as participating in all Pathology procedures.

Regulatory and Education Requirements:

Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnology program, or an Associate Degree, or 60 semester hours of college credit, including 6 hours in Chemistry, 6 hours in Biology, and 1 year of acceptable experience under an ASCP Pathologist and HT (ASCP) or HLT (ASCP) is preferred. A minimum of Registry eligibility is required.

Experience:
At least 3 years of previous experience as a Histotechnician (ASCP) or Histotechnician eligible is preferred. Previous work history demonstrating attendance and punctuality are essential.

Skills:
Typing at a minimum of 40 words per minute is required. Strong word processing and computer skills are essential. Excellent clerical and secretarial skills are also required. Medical terminology is necessary.
