General Overview:
Under general supervision, the Surgical Technician II provides technical support to operating room physicians and nurses during complex surgical procedures. The Surgical Technician II will focus on a primary designated service line and possess expertise specific to that line.

Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize physician's preference cards to prepare the operating room for surgical procedures.
- Maintain and update preference cards as necessary.
- Ensure an adequate supply of instruments and materials to meet patient needs.
- Scrub in and set up instruments and supplies prior to procedures.
- Prepare sterile fields by obtaining, opening, and arranging necessary instruments and supplies.
- Assist in draping the patient and operative area, preparing the sterile field.
- Aid the nurse in correctly identifying operative specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Remain attentive during surgeries, providing additional instruments and supplies as needed.
- Monitor the sterile field and rectify any breaches in sterile technique.
- Deliver medications to the surgeon as required.
- Participate in sponge, needle, and instrument counts as per policy.
- Report all drains, packs, implants, etc., to the circulating nurse and assist with dressing applications.
- Assist with the post-operative processing of instruments and equipment.
- Clean operating room areas and dispose of sharps according to policy.
- Collaborate with other departments and vendors to stay updated on new equipment and ensure proper tools and supplies are available.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb, kneel, and perform duties under stress.
- May involve lifting and carrying objects.
- Requires considerable walking, standing, pushing, and pulling.
- Must be able to stand for up to 6 hours per day.
- Excellent manual dexterity is required to handle instruments and equipment.
- Sufficient visual acuity to perform required tasks.
- Occasional requirement to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to move or position patients.
- Frequent exposure to needles, sharp objects, blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases.

Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical asepsis as it pertains to the operating room, various instruments used for surgical procedures, and proper operating room setup.
- Skills in maintaining effective working relationships, following technical instructions, and scrubbing for all specialty areas.
- Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to patients.

Education:
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician program.

Licenses/Certifications:
- Service line competency achievement.
- Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.
